Baptist Health Earns Magnet Recognition

Baptist Health was notified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) that it has achieved recognition as a Magnet™ Health Care System, an international quality designation enjoyed by less than five percent of hospitals in the country. Magnet status is considered the "gold standard" for nursing and clinical care. Baptist Health is the only multi-hospital health system in Northeast Florida to earn Magnet status, and one of only 13 health systems nationwide.

One of America's "Best Hospitals 2007"

Baptist Medical Center was named among U.S. News & World Report's "Best Hospitals 2007," and among the top 50 in the country for digestive disorders, in the July 25, 2007, issue of the magazine. The 2007 list is comprised of 173 hospitals nationwide, out of 5,462 hospitals evaluated, and is broken down into 16 specialties.

2006/07 Consumer Choice Award
The National Research Corporation (NRC) assists healthcare organizations' efforts to measure and improve the quality of their care and works with the largest and most respected organizations in the nation providing research services. Annually they announce the Consumer Choice Awards for the most-preferred hospitals selected from the nation's most comprehensive, nationwide consumer health care profile representing consumer surveys from nearly 170,000 households.

Stroke Center seal logo

In 2007, the Stroke Centers at Baptist Medical Center Downtown and Baptist Medical Center South earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for stroke care. The Joint Commission awarded Baptist Downtown and Baptist South with Primary Stroke Center Certification following an on-site review. This certification is based on recommendations published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association.

In 2006, Life Flight, Baptist Health's air ambulance service, was the first rotor wing ambulance service in the State of Florida to receive accreditation by the Commission on the Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). The voluntary accreditation, which is for three years, is the result of a site visit and a thorough review by CAMTS of documentation for all aspects of the program, including education, safety, patient care, the quality assurance process, aircraft maintenance schedules, and other guidelines.

The University of Florida Pediatric Cardiovascular Center, a partnership between Wolfson Children's Hospital and the University of Florida/Jacksonville, offers diagnosis and treatment of infants, children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. The joint program, which performed more than 6,000 echocardiograms last year, is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). The Cardiovascular Center's two echocardiography laboratories - the inpatient lab located at Wolfson Children's Hospital and the outpatient lab located at 1443 San Marco Blvd. - were among less than 20 pediatric labs in the United States to have achieved accreditation in three modalities: pediatric transthoracic, pediatric transesophageal and fetal echocardiography. The center was the first in Florida to accomplish this.

Life Flight, the air ambulance service for Baptist Health, is certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS), an organization dedicated to improving the quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment for services providing rotor wing, fixed wing and ground transport systems. Life Flight was the first rotary wing helicopter program in the state of Florida and is the only program in Jacksonville to achieve this three-year accreditation status.

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is the nation's predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. In 2004, the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy awarded a three-year accreditation to the Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program of Mayo Clinic, Nemours Children's Clinic and Wolfson Children's Hospital. The foundation awarded the accreditation after thorough site visits at all collection, transplantation and laboratory facilities at Mayo Clinic, Nemours Children's Clinic and Wolfson Children's Hospital.
