After serving as the Administrator of Baptist Medical Center Downtown since 1998, John Wilbanks was appointed as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Baptist Health in November 2004. Wilbanks joined Baptist as Vice President of Professional Services in 1986 and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 1990, a position he has held with Baptist Medical Center, Baptist St. Vincent's and now Baptist Health.
Wilbanks holds a bachelor's degree from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas, where he received the Wall Street Journal Award and the Lou Hassell Award as outstanding scholar athlete. He earned his master of business administration degree from the University of Georgia in Athens before beginning his healthcare career at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta.
Since 2003, Wilbanks has been on the Board of the Florida Hospital Association. Wilbanks is a Board member of the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for Homeless, currently chairing its Health Services Committee. He also serves on the Board of the Yates branch of the YMCA. Wilbanks is a past President of the Duval County Unit of the American Cancer Society and served on its Board for four years. He also served on the Board of the South Jacksonville Club of Rotary International from 1994-1995, and volunteered with the Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. for seven years.
A current passion is his participation in beginning a new church, MissionWay Community Church.
